AVChat 2 and AVConference are compatible with both FMS 2 & 3 and Red5 .
How does AVChat software work ?
Some information on how AVChat software sends video and audio between the users.
How does AVChat software work?! How does it sends video and audio?!
AVChat software consists mainly from a Flash file that when run in the browser makes a connection to the Flash Media Server. Once the connection is made, video, audio and text data can be sent over this connection to the Flash Media Server. From there the video, audio and text are sent to othersuch Flash files connected.

The Flash Media Server software can be installed on the same server as the Web Server (Apache,IIS, etc...) or for better performance it can be installed on its own separate dedicated server. You can also buy a Flash Media Server hosting package from one of the providers listed here for as low as $10/month.
How about the quality of the video and audio?!
Flash Player grabs the video data from the web camera, encodes it using the Sorenson Spark video codec, grabs the audio from the microphone, encodes it using the Nellymoser audio codec, and then it sends all this data to the Flash Media Server.
Using a .xml file AVChat 2 and AVConference allows you to configure: resolution, maximum bandwidth, maximum quality, frames per second, key frames per second and the sound rate (sound quality).
More about Flash video...
Flash Player uses .flv files to playback prerecorded videos. .flv files can be encoded with 2 video codecs: Sorenson Spark from Sorenson added in 2002 in Flash 6 and ON2 Truemotion VP6 from ON2 introduced in 2005 in Flash 8.
Flash applications running in the browser can only use the first one (Sorenson) to ENCODE and SEND video datato the Flash Media Server.
A little bit of history.
AVChat development started in winter 2004, since then, based on feedback from the clients it suffered some modifications and additions during 2005 (like the long awaited emoteicons). The year 2006 has been a consolidation period for AVChat, while 2007 will be the year we will expand our software suite with a few more applications.
